Windsor Castle is a massive, historic fortress that has been home to the British and English Royal Family for centuries. The castle is enormous - occupying over 13 acres - and it's also one of the largest inhabited castles in the world. The castle frequently hosts state occasions, and when the Queen is at home, her royal standard flies from one of its towers.
Better experienced than described. Tour operators I went with = Premium tours. Excellent group, great Tour guide, experienced driver, great timing and important tips.I visited on a Saturday, started tour at 9:30am, witnessed guards change around 11am. Place was packed with several tourists from all over the world. I'd recommend going with a guide. We had to wait a few minutes in long queues before entering as the place was heavily booked. I bought tickets in advance through the tour group I came with and that saved me a lot of hassle. Was lucky to witness the guards change. Rich English culture, well preserved, proudly displayed.A definite recommend for anyone interested in rich royal history and artefacts.Decent washrooms, affordable eateries around, friendly but strict castle staff, everything was on point.Souvenirs to be grabbed within and outside castle at reasonable prices.

Love this castle! When visiting Europe you see a ton of castles but this one has to be my favorite! It's clean, kept up and absolutely beautiful! This was my first visit and I already recommended it to all my friends and family planning trips to London! This is a beautiful must stop!

The area around the castle is very nice, roads are filled with flowers and union jack flags everywhere. The view from the river banks and the bridge is so nice and one won’t get enough of. The castle was closed at the time of my visit so can’t comment of the internals.

Such a fascinating place of British regal history. Perfect place to go on a weekend and to see the history maintained beautifully. The regiments of royal guards are there to be photographed in their ceremonial uniforms. There is Royal Doll’s house and miniature royal palace are also fascinating to see. There are a lot of sights, where you can click aesthetic pictures and after checking all the places, you can buy magnets, postcards and souvenirs. There are a lot of good food places near castle and not to miss the ice cream places. Also not to miss to see “The Long Walk” at Windsor park.

Highly recommend this as it is one of the must-see locations if you are visiting the country or the area.Overall, it was a lovely visit. Before arriving we did not know what to expect as this was the first time visiting this particular location. We had a driver who dropped us off at the corner between the long walk and the entrance. Entrance was very easy and organized and the guards were very professional and helpful. No pictures are allowed inside parts of some buildings but that leaves the visitor plenty of area to take pictures outside the buildings on the grounds. I like the audio tour but think that your estimate of how long they take is a little low. It took more than 120 minutes to see most of what we saw and that was before the planned Kitchen tour that we booked. I think 180 minutes might be more accurate. The church and grounds are beautiful and have a rich history we could have spent much more time there. The fire restoration is amazing. Kudos to the builders for restoring it to its current condition in just 5 short years. After the visit, we walked part of the long walk and then down the cobblestone city streets. That was a bit less well-kept than the castle grounds but nice all the same.

Worth every penny. £33 pound each. Make sure you get the headphone set that talks you through each of the different parts of the Castle. Each room has a number that corresponds to which room you're in. Fascinating Can buy tickets in advance fir a discount but not on the day

Great side trip from London. Nice shopping area outside the castle. Queen Mary's doll house was OK, interesting. The inside of the castle that we saw was gorgeous. Cool to see all the knight crests. Also nice to St. George chapel, and the queen's resting place.

This was one of the best experiences of my life. Having been brought up seeing all the big events held by the royals it was great to be able to see first hand where everything has happened in my lifetime. I’m not a big history person but this was definitely something I could relate to.We spent the better part of three hours exploring the castle. I would absolutely recommend to anyone.

Wow, what a place. 1000 years old and still looks amazing.Went to visit and look inside the halls and residence, etc. Fascinating history Kings Queens paintings and from all over the world gifts etc. To see.I had to pay my respect to the late Queen and Prince Philip. Took a few moments to remember how wonderful they both were.Well, it's worth a visit. What else could someone say.

Fantastic, historical site to visit. The splendour inside is amazing, and the architecture is outstanding. This has something for everyone. My only small niggle would be that there isn't enough information as you walk around, so you need to buy the audio sets or books. However, the staff are informative and very helpful. Excellent day out.

Love it!! The changing of the guards was wonderful. The Castle was so beautiful and there are so many artifacts to see. We also enjoyed a cup of tea with a tea biscuit. Be sure to visit the church where Queen Elizabeth, her husband, mother, father and sister are laid to rest as well as Henry the eighth. Make the time to go into the town as well. The people are all so friendly.

I liked it. We visited as part of a 2-day tour from London so we had limited time, but it was more than enough to visit the whole place. We didn’t get to see the changing of the guard, but the doll house is very impressive. There are lots of rooms to explore, and the audio guide was explanatory. However, one of the guides had the files in different order so it was difficult to follow the path

Very well organized national treasure, we visited when King Charles was on site, but seen no significant blockades or restricted areas. Museum is amazing, obviously, premises are well maintained. Definitely recommend, it's worth the money!

This is simply amazing. The self guided tours are amazing. The phone/headsets used are easy to work and provide one to two minutes of information. They provide information that is succinct and informative. The chapel closes earlier than the State Apartments so go there first. The Doll House is not to be missed. You can walk and enjoy or immerse yourself in details. The gardens are lovely in the old moat and worth a few pounds (which goes to charity). Books in thr shops are informative and inexpensive. The adjoining town is lovely as well. Make a day of it.

Windsor is a great spot and the castle is beautifully set within a short walk from the shops. Not all is open to visitors due it still being residential, but the parts that are, like the chapel and staterooms are truly impressive. Can return as many times as you like for 12 months free with your ticket.

It was a great surprise! Wonderful town with shops and many coffees and places to eat. Windsor castle was beyond our expectations. We did not wait too long for tickets and to enter, the tour was great - a lot to see. The gardens around the castle are also a great place for a walk. The weather was nice, so it was a really nice experience! If you are in the UK, in London or around - it is a must visit. The public transport is convenient and if you are a group, uber is also an option and the total price is similar.

Lovely day with my husband walking around the castle. It was very sad to see the final resting place of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth 11.Very well laid out, easy route to follow. Shame not all visitors adhered to NO pictures once inside our Royal Families Home.

Historic castle used as a residence by the British Royal family. Tickets can be purchased on the day but better to purchase online. Tickets which are purchased from the castle itself can be converted to an annual pass for free.It takes about two hours to tour the grounds and castle, depending on how long you want to linger at each point. A free touch screen audio guide and headphones are loaned for the tour. There is no tour guide, you just walk around at your own pace. The touch screen guide will provide information on various parts of the castle. The parts are numbered. The North terrace then the doll's House followed by the state apartments then St George's chapel. The Chapel is closed for visitors on Sunday. Changing of the guard happens at 11am on certain days except Sunday. No photography is allowed inside. Use public car parks, the castle does not have one for visitors.

Iconic and beautiful sight to behold. Your visit could be quite delayed if you did not buy your ticket in advance, as you have to queue to buy your ticket and your entrance will depend on the time of the next available batch. In all, please buy your tickets in advance if you can, and also budget roughly two hours to enjoy your time at the Castle.

Visited the Windsor Castles during the Christmas holidays, the castle was closed but we could walk around the castle, take pictures, and also walk to the river. The rail station is historic and the engine which was used by the royal family is still on display. Even if you want to see things outside of Castle it would take at least a couple of hours, our tour gave us one hour to eat breakfast and look around. Make sure you have good cameras and comfortable walking shoes. There are a few restaurants that are open on holiday that day. I guess due to holidays the souvenir shops didn't open until our tour ended.

It's great to visit a place that it is actively being used, but the ticket price is not justified. The majority of the places that you can see are actually on the outside of the castle. The only good thing is that is you decide to donate the ticket amout to charity, you have access for a year to the castle with the same tickets, but still, if you don't live nearby then my initial comment stands. The dollhouse, for example, has really long queues, and once inside, you have to keep moving and can not really enjoy how much you want as the flow has to move.Honestly, overall, it's not that impressive compared to other castles that I have visited. The great thing about it is the location as it is really close to the train station and it's easy to reach.
Anelis G — Google review
Worth the ticket price. Allow 2 to 3 hours to take it all in. The Art work is amazing, as is the architecture. The staff are really helpful and enjoy answering your questions. The Chapel isn't open on a Sunday which is the day we went so that was a disappointment. Souvenirs are expensive but cheaper in the shops outside the castle. Parking was £5.50 an hour.

My friends and I been there 2 days back and it was amazing! The details of the exterior and interior of the castle was really astonishing and to think how many years it was built. It was really preserved well. Though we were not able to picture the interior of the castle, yes, it is for your eyes only. The experience you will forever hold and tell the stories to your families and friends. It was really a great experience as this is my first castle in UK to get inside and experience to. I bought some of the merchandise inside as a token. It was quite pricy, but worth it.And to add up the fabulous experience, the weather was great that day as well.I would really recommend this to travelers as one of the bucket list to tick. 😉🏰👑🤴👸🫅🇬🇧

Windsor Castle is a stunning destination that seamlessly blends historical grandeur with natural beauty. The castle itself is an architectural marvel, steeped in centuries of history, but what truly sets it apart is its picturesque setting. The grounds are meticulously maintained, with lush gardens that offer a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.Strolling through the expansive gardens, you'll encounter a variety of flora that change with the seasons, making each visit unique. The Long Walk, a tree-lined avenue, provides a breathtaking perspective of the castle and is perfect for a leisurely walk or a picturesque picnic. The surrounding parkland, home to ancient oak trees and a diverse array of wildlife, offers a serene backdrop that enhances the overall experience. However, there are several drawbacks to consider. The entrance fees can be quite steep, making it a costly outing for families. During peak tourist seasons, the grounds and interiors can become very crowded, detracting from the peaceful ambiance and making it difficult to fully appreciate the natural beauty and historical exhibits. Some visitors have noted that certain areas of the castle and gardens are not as accessible as they could be for those with mobility issues, and the signage throughout the grounds could be improved to better guide visitors. Additionally, the presence of ongoing restoration and maintenance work can sometimes interfere with the experience, as certain sections may be closed off or obstructed.Parking can also be a challenge, with limited spaces available nearby, often forcing visitors to park at a distance and walk to the castle. Furthermore, the commercialized aspects, such as the gift shops and cafes, can feel overpriced and detract from the overall historical charm of the site.Despite these inconveniences, Windsor Castle remains a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the best of both history and nature. The tranquility of the natural surroundings complements the historical significance of the castle, making it a memorable and enriching experience.

Left it very last minute and hoped to get tickets on the day, which we could- got there for about 10 and got tickets for 12:30. Buy them as soon as you get there, as if we’d gone back for 12:30, the next time slot was 13:30- they sell out fast. Had a little wander round Windsor itself whilst waiting for our ticket time- nice and compact with lovely shops. The castle is fully accessible, we’d hired a large mobility scooter, which was a squeeze getting into the lifts, but doable with a bit of shunting- staff were amazing and so helpful- there wasn’t one bit we couldn’t see by either ramps, lifts or alternative routes. Very emotional seeing Queen Elizabeth II resting place. Beautiful place, and we had an amazing time.

The world famous Windsor Castle did not disappoint. Gorgeous inside and outside with beautiful and well maintained state rooms, many of them from the Victorian era. We were fortunate to catch a service at St. George's Chapel on the 2-year anniversary of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension to the throne by King Charles III. Also, a 2-minute moment of silence was held at 11:30 am for the same occasion. The service itself was beautiful with nice singing, some of which in Latin. Also, don't miss the objects in the Grand Vestibule of Windsor Castle, including a Benin Bronze head donated by Nigeria. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff and beautiful gift stores.

The castle itself is stunning and exceptionally well-organized.Shortly after leaving the front desk, we joined a tour led by Lorna, who was just beginning her session. She was fantastic, sharing captivating stories about the kings and queens and explaining the castle's rich history and architecture. The tour was incredibly informative and engaging.Overall, we had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Was a very good time. The changing of the guard here was much less crowded than at Buckingham palace and we enjoyed watching it just as much. Got in, saw the chapel, and then lined up at the railing to see the changing of the guard. This worked out very well timing wise. The chapel was interesting to tour. Both the chapel and staterooms had no photography. The moat garden was an extra charge and we could see a lot of it from above without paying the extra fee. The north area woman's restroom is very far from where you start the stateroom tour so take that into account. It has nice views over the local country side besides views of the castle up close. Would recommend if you can going to see at least the beginning of the Long Walk as from the castle side you see it, but can't take pictures of it or walk on it.

Windsor Castle is a historic and grand structure, known as the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, and serves as one of the official residences of Her Majesty The Queen. The castle's origins trace back to around 1080, with numerous improvements and expansions made over the centuries, culminating in the stunning castle we see today, completed in 1830.Exploring Windsor Castle and its surroundings is a true delight for tourists. The area offers a wide array of food, drinks, and unique memorabilia available in nearby shops, along with scenic boat rides on the River Thames. The "old English" architecture of the castle is particularly captivating. While the prices for goods and services around the castle are understandably higher compared with other areas, they do not feel out of place given the setting. The ambiance of Windsor Castle is truly remarkable, and it's nearly impossible to fully explore the entire castle in just one day. Covering 484,000 square feet and spread across 13 acres of land, the castle is divided into two main sections:Lower Ward: This area includes St. George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel.Upper Ward: This section houses the private apartments of the monarch and visitors.Additionally, the castle adjoins Home Park, which lies on the northern edge of Windsor Great Park. Home to some of the oldest broadleaved woodlands in Europe, the park adds to the natural beauty surrounding the castle.Inside, Windsor Castle boasts over 1,000 rooms, more than 300 fireplaces, and an impressive collection of royal paintings, armor, and furniture that could rival any museum. For history enthusiasts and tourists alike, Windsor Castle is an absolute must-visit destination.

Returned to Windsor Castle for the first time since February 2019, and the experience was even more breathtaking with the better weather this time around. Windsor truly looks stunning under the sunlight. One of the highlights was Queen Mary’s Dolls House – it’s absolutely amazing, offering a miniature glimpse into royal life.Lucky for us, we visited on the last day the State Apartments were open, which added an extra layer of excitement to the visit. The audio tour was a standout feature, informative and well-organized, making it easy to match the commentary with each room we entered. The views from the castle windows over the gardens and beyond into wider Windsor are stunning and not to be missed. You could easily spend many hours just wandering and soaking it all in.A note for future visitors: St George’s Chapel was closed as it was a Sunday, so do check the opening times ahead of your visit.

Windsor Castle is remarkably beautiful ,but the tour I was with didn't allow much time for between stops to where I had enough time to go in and see the inside of the castle. I'm sure it was just as beautiful as I found the structure of the outside. I think this tour needs to be a tour of a one day tour alone.

Stunning castle- worth the visit. There is no photography on videography allowed inside. You need to pass through an airport style security to get in.. pre purchase your tickets, it makes it go a lot faster. There is a free guided tour in many languages which gives you a lot of information about all the rooms and artifacts. If you want to take your take time to tour, you will need about 2-2.5 hours. We were able to visit through in a little over an hour because we were a part of a tour group.

We visited on Saturday of Easter weekend so it was quite busy but manageable. It was a beautiful day, too. All tours of the castle were well managed both outside and inside, considering how busy it was. The staff were friendly and helpful. Once inside, we'd spent around 2 hours in total exploring the castle and its history. I'd recommend getting the audio guide, as you are constantly moving and so won't have enough time to read everything. We ended our tour in St George's Chapel, which was quite surreal for me. We walked around slowly, and it's surprising just how many people are buried there. We had got to some stairs which had a sign saying "you are about to walk past the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II". We couldn't stop by it. We had to keep walking. It was quite emotional for us to see it, as well as seeing a grave stone for Margaret too. Once we had finished our tour, we continued and ended our day in Windsor at a few local pubs and a restaurant. Highly recommended for anyone interested in our history, but it is also a great town for a day out without the tour of the castle.

There is so much to take in at the castle and within the grounds. We had a whistle stop tour as part of a school group visit but I will definitely go back to take it in more slowly. St George's Chapel and the State Rooms are absolutely breathtaking in their opulence, splendour and sheer detail. You could be here for hours and still need to go back. I'm hoping to go back and spend at least 2 days going around it all. The surrounding area is so beautiful too and worth a walk around, as are the local shops and eateries. It's like stepping back in time and I loved it :)

Every inch in this place has a history, that's why at the entrance you will be equipped with a multimedia player that will tell you the history of every location that you visit here. Beautiful castle with so much to see. Definitely book in advance. You have to arrive ahead of your entry time to queue up, but entrance was very efficient. If you want to enter the castle more quickly they have a line that bypasses the doll house exhibit, but we found the doll house to be very interesting. The gardens are beautiful, and the chapel was worth a visit as well.

I went with my kids and they loved it. The castle is well looked after and the organization of queue and pathways is impeccable though on the day of our visit there were hundreds of visitors. There were toilets and places to rest and have a bite all along the way which is super good for families. The self tour guide was a hit for my kids. It had specific information for kids with games and quizzes to solve about almost each room we visited. The park (the long walk) is also great for picnic. It’s important to buy tickets online as it would spare you the queue. Also come on time as you will queue until the time of your booking. Please consider adding Arabic to the menu of languages in the self tour guide.

We decided to go on the way back from London. It can be difficult to find parking on the weekend. the area at the front of the castle is busy. Plenty of shops and places to eat. Very touristy. If you wind your way around the back of the castle there is a fantastic walk which is a couple of kilometres long. There is a monument at the end of the walk, on a hill with fantastic views of the surroundings. Worth the walk if you have 3-4 hours. Take water and a snack!

The ticket Including free instruction with record, in more than ten languages, very helpful and got to learn The British history on visiting. Be prepare for line up, leave extra time, check the website before book ticket, then you could be lucky as we, view the exchange the guards, wonderful experience.
